I can view the setup of Billing Codes in AX 2012, however, how are they applied to a Free Text Invoice?

I suggest you to have a look at “PSUS” company in the “AX instance with public sector data” to get clear understanding on how does the billing codes work.

Below screen shot is for your understanding.

Based on the setup of billing code “AMB-Ambulance”, during the FTI end user can see the custom fields where he can enter the data and the FTI amount will be determined by the options that are chosen by the customer.

  1. Is there a parameter to enable this field IN the free text form? I don’t see it in our Contoso demo company.

enable the parameter “use billing classifications” in AR> parameters.

  1. You can look into partner source for Public sector data set , down load the bak file and use it.

What is the use of the billing codes in the real business scenerios ?

Does to applicable to manufacturing , trade companies also or only for the public sector companies ?

Billing codes functionality can also be used by any businesses based on need, not that it is applicable only for Public sector companies. Till AX2012 FP the focus was mainly for Public sectors. Recent releases it caters both the public sector and general businesses also.

what is the use of billing codes?

If you look at the screen shot I’ve attached, there based on the billing codes, we can configure FTI to show up the custom fields to the user and thus during the billing he can supply different values to the custom fields and based on that the Invoice value will be determined.

In the screen shot, a public sector organization which operates ambulance services charge the customer based on the service that they use.

If the customer needs the Oxygen, and if it is emergency situation, then the “Yes” option can be selected and the charges of oxygen and emergency services will be automatically calculated and Invoice value will be determined.

How do you get the free text invoice to calculate with the values you type in…
