Best Blogging tool for running a multi-language blog

I’m planning to run a little blog in French and English,
basically I need some recommendation which blogging tool (Wordpress? Community Sever?) is the
best suited for this.

I just need to manage two language, an easy way to switch from a language to another one, which CMS does provide such a feature

How this can be achieve on community serve blog ? what are the limitations ? quirks ?

why don’t you just blog here on DUG?

Because I plan on hosting the blog on my web site, a Forum for the French community, pretty much what msdynamics.de is for the German community.

Many French NAV folks are just overwhelmed & scared with English, some even can’t figure out the sign up procress. But that’s another topic of discussion …

DUG uses community server, does anyone know a good way for handling using multiple language in blog on community server ?

I will check out the community server forum, they might have some pointers there.

Erik has already warned me that community server is expensive & complex, I will check out the free version and have a play with it do see the limitations.

So are you after a forum or a Blog site?

Take a look at International forums part here in DUG [;)]
There are 12 languages + English (wow, 13 of them - hadn’t noticed), including nonLatin charactersets as Cyrillic, Chinese, Arabic…

Do you already have a site then? If so what is it based on (php or aspx) and which technology do you know better?

I have talked with Tarek about this. And I welcome his trial. He want’s to do what nobody have been able to do so far: Get the French users and developers into the community!

Look at the numbers. There are many French users, many French developers. But we never see them or hear from them. Just the same as it was last year at Directions EMEA when it was in Paris. I’ve been told that not even one French partner showed up…

So if a site only in French can do the job, then I welcome it.

But to Tarek: I don’t think you should care about the multi-language features. Concentrate on the French. Otherwise I’m sure your trial will not work out successful.

A CMS (Content Management Software) for managing a blog, ie: Wordpress

and also a forum solution : PhpBB, CS

Community Server is nice in the sense it allows you to push blog feeds on the landing page pretty much out of the box

Erik : the Multi language feature will only be for the blog, so I can publish a version of the article in English (people will comment on there in English) and another one in French where I will get the comments from the French speakers

I still dont understant if you already have the site, or if you are starting from scratch.

If you already have a forum then use a blog that fits in.

If you are starting from a clean slate, then use PHPbb for the forum, and wordpress for the blog, do it all in French. Then with your Blog, feed the English version directly into this site for English replies.

I would still say that you should really think about the multi language thing as an issue. You would still have to post your blog two times and still have it in two different URL’s.

Word Press is not a bad solution - I know many people who are very happy about it. And I think that I have heard about a forum software that was integrated with it. I just don’t remember which.

But has I see it then its also a question about what “type” you are. Are you PHP or a ASP.NET type? One of the major reasons why I selected to use ASP.NET instead of the more common PHP was 100% that it’s based upon technology that’s not unknown to me. It’s the same technology that you normally would use to create a Navision integrated website. So I feel I had a win-win by selecting ASP.NET. Both benefitting the community and my personal skilset.
