Best beer country?

Well, looks like this finally beat the good old Jaffa Cakes thread… It would have to be about alcohol, wouldn’t it??

La Chouffe, McChouffe, KwelChouffe those should be the names when talking about beer:D Ofcourse I voted Belgium

In my younger days this was one of my favourite beers[:D]. You can buy it in the US, it is sold as “Fosters Premium” in Green cans, but it is made in Canada [:(], and tastes nothing like real VB.[xx(] When I moved to the Czech republic, I was so happy to see all the VB cars delivering beer, until I eventually learned that in Czech, VB means police [B)] (well Public Security actually).

ROFLMAO !! [:D]

I can’t believe they can call VB a ‘Premium’ Beer, a good sunny afternoon sitting by the beach type beer maybe [8D]. Perhaps it’s a reflection of American Beer[:D].

[B)] Sorry Simpon, I just checked, its called “Fosters Special Beer” not Premium. I agree, Premium is a bit much of a statement for VB. (Especially the current VB). Unfortunately growing up, in Perth, we only had Swan, Emu, Fosters, VB and eventually XXXX. VB was the best of a bad bunch I guess. Eventually we got Coopers, and were saved.

I was just sent this, and thought it appropriate. Colin, I hope you don’t mind.

NOOOOOOOOOO!! MY JAFFA CAKE THREAD HAS BEEN BEATEN… [:(] NO BEER THANKS, MINE’S A JACK DANIELS… [:p] Ade

about the best beer: pure malt: pilsener urquell (CZ), budweiser (USA, YES! But it originally comes from Germany) double malt: Gordon (UK), Biere du desert (??), Blue Chimay (BG) (<-I really love this one!!!) About the wine: i’m pretty ignorant about the australian wine…i’ll look for it. But i can tell about italian wines…i’m from Puglia / Apulia, a region that is a patchwork of grapes, and my advice is to taste some of our ‘primitivo di Manduria’ (Manduria is a small city in the province of Taranto / Tarentum). Very deep red wine. If anyone here has in mind to visit Italy, just email me, i’ll bring you to some good wine cellars… Bye.

Sorry Domenico, but you are wrong about Budweiser. [}:)][:(!] Budweiser comes from the Czech Republic from a town called ceske budejovice (or Budvis in its original Latin name). The correct name for the beer is budvar. If you want to try great beer, in a great pub, the best pub in the world (well at least the best pub in the world that I have been in), is masne kramy in budejovice. Its about a block and a half off the main square. They serve of course - budvar. Does anyone else have a great pub to recommend? Hof Brau Haus Munich, Waxy O’Connor’s London, The Broad Arrow near Kalgoorlie. Follow this link to find the beer … http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?size=big&mapdata=5gbNswcE%2fGEWg8XcY%2bkJx1AnegtlpszOe01ukhGoPcbPLjqZvx2F%2f2e0hYMkrEwvO1PI0yhbJgxlQYPw4qE6JLUVBW9q1Wzs6oftw%2fV5WJYSHGbKzdVzT1Woynr9hI%2f%2buZ72G7J27LUZwFabLkDtY%2fJhIf9%2bFn2GgCZph7OHxbTTpAqxeNf1M5fPJ%2fcUaV4NFqOqO1jurFq20UpA4548vA0AkVn8zub6tHiCOpmRedEubftgoFycaPiGN%2bms2TzhIsiA1ONKD2BYr8og05kPKpRGQvmqUnVU9esSBnOOFUX17Pa6FyXdFFozZeS8WUAZfNzavAp6Vnsj%2bfaq%2fiuSpA%3d%3d By the way you do need to try Australian wines, they are the best, though I do like Italian wines.

Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem in Nottingham - where all the rooms are carved into the rock under Nottingham Castle and claims to be the oldest pub in England definitely has it for interest value. I think they served Shipstones (which lives up to its anagram of Honest Piss) The Pavilion End in the City of London - where you can sit amongst cricket memorabilia and watch videos of 1970’s One Day Internationals. I remember there was a bar in Sagres, Portugal that had amazing views out over the Atlantic and claimed to be the most westerly bar in Europe but the name much like most of that night escapes me.[xx(] However my personal current favourite has to be the Newport Arms Hotel in Northern Sydney where you get sweeping views over Pittwater, a huge beer garden, good food, and more importantly nowadays lots of room and places for the kids to play. But to quote our very own Slim Dusty; “There’s nothing so lonesome,So morbid or drear, Than to stand in a bar of a pub with no beer” [^]

[V] Sorry for the mistake…but the original idea was that the budweiser beer (or budvar) is not from USA, but from Europe. [;)] Thanks for your advice, i planned some time ago to travel to Czech Republic…you wake up my wish to do this for real! The wine…italain, australian, french…the real point is the taste of it!!! I’m hunting australian wine on the internet, have you any suggestion about that? [8D]

I think wine tasting on the Internet may not be too successfull, rather try a wine store. [:)]

there are some incredible HP devices to do that…they put jacks in some parts of the body that i can’t mention here [:D] Anyway, i don’t use them…[8D]

Since i seem to be the only belgian around here, i salute you fellows on your good tastes. I’ll have a good one on your healths this evening.

No there are a lot of Belgians out there, they just didn’t vote.

With reference to Simon Godfrey the beer in Ye Olde Trip To Jerusalem is Hardys and Hansons not Shipstones (who no longer exist), I know because I am the I.S.Manager of Hardys and Hansons and it is our most famous pub, being the oldest INN in the U.K. I have attached a picture. By the way we are also Navision Attain users and are very happy with the software. Well I would have uploaded an image if it had worked. David

Beer on the House @ Hardys and Hansons Pub…today 7pm onwards [:D] Thanx David Cooke Regards, Srinivas Shetty

Castle Lager from South Africa… Somewhat bitter, never sweet![:)]
