Best beer country?

BY the way Appologies due to all the Mesopotainians out there. Further research on my part indicates that it was them, and not the Egyptians that are credited with officially inventing beer. With the Czechs (actually Bohemians, but same thing) coming in a close second about 5,000 years later inventing Lager. Since beer is taste, and taste is opinion, and opinion is numbers, more people drink lager than beer, so it wins.

Here in Sweden we have many Lagers all-testing about the same. Up here we are not in the beer belt or the wine belt, BUT THE VODKA BELT. It’s not the taste that matters here in Sweden but the alcohol contents measure in volume. When ordering a beer in the Pub (If you can find one) you push your way to the bar and scream “EN STOL STACK” which mean “BIG STRONG 1” the word beer does don’t come into it. Sweden has 3 classes of beer:- Class I :frowning: 1% - 2.5% Drink these all night the only affect you’ll get is that you have to piss all night. Class 2 :expressionless: 3% - 4%.Good for drink in the sauna, Your head will start to spin after three. Now for the Class 3  5% - 9%. Party time. 9% I’v never finished one of these beers. Class I and II these can be purchased in you normal shops. For the Class 3 you will have to go to the Government owned off-licences. There you will have to make a calculation on the numbers off beers you are going to drink on Sunday as these shops are closed. Regards Graham. P.S A beer will always test better in a good company and surrounding.

Sorry, but I don’t think we can classify anything under 5% as beer. [:D]

Perhaps a Swede has taken over Carlton and United Breweries because here in Australia they have just released a new beer called Carlton Cold Shot which is an intriguing mixture of Beer and Vodka. This nudges the normal Carlton Cold from 5.1% up to over 6%. Unfortunately it still tastes the same as 99% of Australian beer which are on the whole tasteless fizzy water. But at least it makes you fall over quicker.

You can not imagine all the things we do with beer. Mixing it with coke is especially done by youngsters … extra sugars … able to drink more.

Hey Guys, 2/3rds of world population is in Asia. India and China. THey drink King fisher and TsingTao and Tiger. Many of the Beer Drinkers dont even know of brands you guys are talking abt. How does that change the Poll equation.

Tiger is a really good beer. One thing that I appreciate about it, is that is it a crisp clean tasting lager, and still they are able to mass produce it with a concistant taste. Also it taste very similar in bottles, and on tap. I alsways thought it tasted similar to Swan Lager (in the days when Swan was a good beer, about 20 years ago). TsingTao is also a good beer, but though I have had King Fisher (in London), it was in bottles, so it doesn’t count. Also in terms of changing the equation, it has little effect. Though 2/3 of the worlds population is in Asia, 2/3 of its beer drinkers are in Europe so this counts more.

Hello out there, Still so many french replies… even when it’s about wine ! Someone said that this poll sounds like “Which country are you from ?”. NO, I didn’t vote for french beers ! I’m still wondering how dutch and belgian tourists can spend 3 weeks in France without bringing their own beer-trucks… (I hope, saying that, there’s a french guy from the north who’ll wake up and say there are some good beers produced in France on the Belgian border…). “Where do the best beers come from ?” I don’t know what the best beers are. I just know the ones that I enjoy. There are the beers you drink when you are thirsty. There are the beers that taste fine. There are the beers that help you forget a bad day (yesterday). The only thing I am sure of is that I wouldn’t like to have a “beer-seller” as customer who’d ask me for Distribution and Item tracking (my bad day, yesterday…). I’m about to leave my job to become a priest in Belgium (in Abdijbier I believe).

This in not necessary, since in most towns North of Paris, you can always find a pub serving Belgium beer. [}:)]

I must take up a point made by David as to Australian beers. Coopers (my home beer) is still run by the Cooper family not a beer produced by some group such as Lion or Carton United . You should also include Cascade and Boags in any list of good Aussie beers. One point that I would really like to make about world beers is the absolute ejoyment I have had in trying to decide where the best beers are made, thanks for this topic. Cheers Peter

Hey Peter, Coopers is a great beer. I am one the types that drinks it slowly from the bottle to get the full effect of the sludge at the bottom.[;)] Anyway how is it that a Queenslander calls Coopers his home beer. From memory doesn’t Coopers come from a small town just outside of Adelaide. PS Why do they have XXXX? … because banana benders can’t spell beer. [:D] PPS: Remember Tooheys, VB and XXXX before they were destroyed. Ah the good ole days. Also not sure if Red Back is still around, but also a great OZ beer.

My experience of beers is that exported/imported beers are not so good. For example Heineken is totally different when drinken in the Neatherlands. The same thing happens with Fosters that what I remember is not so popular in Australia. From European countries I recommend tasting beer in the Neatherlands. Cheers!

Hi, If you want discuss this topic with real beer in your hands lets meet next Saturday, August 9th at 19:00 in The Ginger Man – 11 East 36th Street (between 5th and Madison) New York. On Tap: http://www.nycbeer.org/gingerman-ontap.html

Hi Val, so is it on or off?

Hi David I’m from Adelaide originally hence the Coopers as my home brew. You can get the odd Red Back around. The whole micro brewery thing is going along pretty strongly down here now days. Cheers Peter

Ok you should try portuguese. it’s diferent from everything else you’ve tasted. I advice for you all to try our Sagres and Super Bock (our main brands) both of them excelent to go along with nice sea food. For te wines we have mainly 4 large groups, every single one with diferent ‘goals’ Red Wine - Strong a full body wine… good with red meat . White Wine - execlent companion of fish dishes. Green wine or spirit wine - excelent with lite food (sea food and alikes) sweet wines (Oporto, Favaios, etc) aperitives or digestives wines. These should not go alog with meals for they are extremely strong. Vx try Portuguese beer ehe

It seems like all of you do not know spanish beer… here we have beer for Saints indeed. Check out our San Miguel (Saint Michael) It´s Heaven’s provider so…

we also have San Miguel beer here, sCiRiUs. honestly, don’t drink beer… but heard from men that this beer of ours (either the classic one or San Mig light) is one of the best tasting worldwide. most foreign visitors who’ve tried it desperately try to figure where they’d get some supply soon as they’re back home[:)]
