Azure + Power BI for AB-730 exam: What Do I Really Need to Know?

Hey everyone,

I’m getting ready for the Microsoft AI Business Professional AB-730 exam and noticed there’s quite a bit of focus on how Azure ties in with Power BI and the rest of the Microsoft ecosystem.

From a Power BI perspective, I’m curious which Azure integrations or concepts are actually worth knowing for real-world analytics and for the exam?

A few things I’m especially wondering about:

  • When does using Azure really add value compared to just native Power BI features
  • Which Azure integrations matter most for reporting and analytics workflows? How does
  • Power BI usually fit into broader Azure + Office 365 business solutions?

I’m not looking for deep infrastructure details but more like practical, business-focused use cases that a BI developer or analyst would actually run into.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s been through the AB-730 exam preparation or has hands-on experience with these integrations!

Thanks in advance.

I prepped for this recently and IMO the exam (and real work) doesn’t expect deep Azure knowledge, it’s more about when Azure makes sense around Power BI.

From a Power BI angle, Azure adds value once you outgrow “just connect to Excel / SharePoint” scenarios. If data is large, coming from multiple systems or needs proper governance, that’s where Azure fits.

The main things worth knowing:

  • Azure SQL Database – super common source for Power BI when reporting off business apps.
  • Azure Synapse Analytics – used for large, centralized datasets that feed multiple reports.
  • Azure Data Factory – handles data ingestion/cleanup before Power BI ever sees it.
  • Azure Data Lake Storage – storage for raw or semi-structured data, usually upstream.

Power BI itself stays the visualization layer and is usually consumed inside Microsoft Teams or SharePoint which is the “business value” story they like.

When skimming through Microsoft AB-730 exam questions and answers from CertBoosters, I kept seeing the same assumption, Power BI outputs are meant to live inside Microsoft Teams or SharePoint not used in isolation. That pretty much set the tone for how the exam presents real-world BI scenarios.

If you understand why these services are used (scale, automation, governance) rather than how to configure them, you’re basically at the level the exam expects.
