Application Server and Symantec

I have a customer who is running a application server on a client PC. The PC has Norton Antivirus installed. If I stop the Norton/Symantec services the application server works fine. My question is has anyone else experienced this and is there a known work around.

Can you tell more about the behavior (especially what is failing, do you have any errors in the windows event log)?

I should have included that information. The logon process is failing. I can get the actual event log from the customer if that would help.

Is it just the Antivirus or is Norton activated as a firewall as well?

Could you try to run the NAS directly via command line instead of starting the service? The question is if it runs then or not with Norton AV switched on/off.

If the AV is blocking some action, you should find something in the log file of the AV.

Isn’t there an option with Norton to work interactively so that questions are asked to allow/disallow specific processes?

I am sure that happened when I was using Norton - check all the options in the Norton interface.

We swapped to McAfee earlier this year so sadly cannot investigate further for you.

Good luck.
