API daily limit on API calls

I need to know if our current licenses provide access to APIs and if there is also a daily limit on API calls. I don’t see anything about this in the premium license features, I believe it’s a Power Platform license… but not certain. What would be the steps and what should I search to find these?

Hi @GreenSquare,

Do you mean to access the BC SaaS API?

You can connect to BC API with no additional licences, and you can see the incoming request limits in this link: Current API Limits in Dynamics 365 Business Central - Business Central | Microsoft Learn

You don’t need any Power Platform licenses to connect to BC API.

Hi PJ,

Unless I’m mistaken this document doesn’t supply any steps on how to connect to see my limits and it seems more of a general information page. I was trying to access the information directly from my instance. Correct me if I’m wrong…

Hi @GreenSquare,

Unless you’re talking about an OnPremise database, where you can view and change API limits via the config file, these are the limits for the BC SaaS API… you won’t find this information in your tenant, and as far as I know, you can’t see if you’re close to exceeding any limits.

Hi @pjllaneras,

Understood. Thank you for the response.

The limits on API are per user. So, if you split up the API calls on multiple users you can get around the limitations. You can see the number of calls made in Telemetry.

Hello,

If you have Dynamics 365 licenses—like Sales, Customer Service, or Field Service—you usually get API access as part of that. Each user gets a set number of API calls in a 24-hour period. For Power Apps and Power Automate, the number of API calls will vary based on whether you have a per-user or per-app plan. A standard Power Apps plan usually gives you 25,000 API requests per user each day.

To see how many API calls you are using and what your limits are, go to the Power Platform Admin Center or the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. There, you can find an API usage report. This report will show you a breakdown of API calls, daily use, and limits. This way, you can check if you’re close to your allowed limit. You can also look at Microsoft’s official documentation for your plan to see its API limits. If you notice that your organization is going over these limits or needs more, Microsoft has options for upgrading licenses or buying more capacity. For further details, it’s a good idea to check the licensing documents or reach out to Microsoft support or your account manager.
