Has anyone experience of virtualizing Ax in a production environment? Currently run a 3Tier config with one AOS and SQL 2002, there are 70 + users. Has anyone heard of any performance/stability problems with doing this?
AFAIK MS do not recommend running Ax production system in virtual environment. In any case could you let us know version details please?
On another note - I have extensive experience running Ax in virtual environments. But I run only development and testing systems. Overall the performance is not that great.
We run AX on a VMware ESX Server. The AOS instances are hosted on the ESX server, while the database server is a separate physical server. The only way I would go with hosting the database server in a virtual environment is if it was connected to a SAN over fiber (ideally) or iSCSI.
We haven’t had any perf/stability issues (knock on wood). We have around 50 concurrent users.
Recently MS released a KB article on Dynamics Ax vs virtual environment.
From this article, MS announced that Ax will be supported in Hyper V as well as products from third party vendors who participate in the Server Virtualization Validation (SVV) program.
We are using AX3.0 3 Tier with 2 Virtualised SQL servers (VmWare) and 2 physical Object servers (2 AOS in total)
However, Microsoft does not support VMWare and as Harish pointed out only supports Hyper V, we decided to go down this route since ax 3.0 application is unsupported anyhows as is the SQL 2000 db…so getting any real help from microsoft anyhows is going to be tough!!
