.ald and .aod files of AX 2012

Hi all, I can see the .ald and .aod files of AX 2009 in directory

“C:\Program Files\Microsoft Dynamics AX\50\Application\Appl<InstanceName>”.

but I am trying to find the .ald and .aod file to take the backup of AX 2012 instance. But I could not find the directory where it is stored.

Can any one help me.

Hi… you have seriously missed something very important about AX 2012… that’s the trick that data AND program code are both now stored in database

The very easiest code backup option for AX2012 is to make a DB backup, but along with this you will back up also all data, so as you will restore the DB, data will be restored along…

Next and the most advisable option is to make backups for the necessary application models by exporting them with AXUtil tool and reimporting back when necessary.

The last, but the least advisable would be to export XPOs for the things you want to make backup for, but that’s slow and unnecessary, but still technically doable.

Hi Janis Cehovs,

You mean to take the backup we have to take the back up of db (both code backup with labels as well as data back). But the for me i want to create a instance with out data and when we take the db back up its taking long time and as well as space. Is there any other steps to take the app code backup from production environment and restore it in test environment as I want both the production live environment as well as test environment to be same.

Thanks and Regards,

Santhosh Kumar.

Hi,

…yes, there is, that’s the one of the 3 code transfer options that I have mentioned you in my post above:
