5.0 Services vs. Jobs

I know that 5.0 has developed some nice advancements in the services and jobs area. I am trying to understand the goal of each as being better for certain business functions than others.

For instance, having a group of consultants use the system to track and maintain customer hours, billing, and availablity. I feel like the examples I have seen could be applied to both.

Can anyone give a comparison for purpose, and possibly with strengths and weaknesses in overlapping areas? I have been getting efficient with Jobs, but i keep seeing this Service menu that has me scratching my head.

Thanks!

Marc

Marc,

Jobs provide ability to keep track of various costs assiciated with a long term project (or Job); track profitability, compare budgeted costs and revenues against actual costs and revenues. You can also use automated features to calculate wip entries for various job costing methods (including more popular Completed Contract and Percentage of Completion).

Service Management on the other hand is intended for distributors or manufacturers who provide maintenance and repair services for their products. Service Management can support internal service needs, including repair shop service and field service operations. It also includes possiblity to track profitability on items that are serviced and also has functionality for Service Contracts.

I hope this helps.
