Windows Logins not synchronizing

We are currently using SQL Server 2000 and Navision 4.0 SP1 and are working on a server migration and can not move to SP3 until our migration is successful. Since I have restored my databases to the new SQL Server, all my database logins work just fine, but the Windows logins do not. They will not even synchronize. The SQL Database is set to use both Windows and SQL authentication. Here’s a list of what we are experiencing:

  1. We can only synchronize a single database user login.

  2. We can not synchronize a single windows user login.

  3. After synchronizing via “Synchronize All Logins,” we try to login to the database using Windows Authentication, we get “The combination of user ID and password ientered is invalid. Try again.”

I am creating the Windows users by doing the following:

  1. Creating their SQL Server account.

  2. Applying adequate securities to the account ranging from System Administrator roles to user roles.

  3. Creating the WindowsUser account in Navision using / format

  4. Adding roles to their WindowsUser account in Navision

  5. Synchronizing.

Any help on this would be most appreciated!

Steve Ess

Check the security model.

Go to File → Database → Alter → Advanced Tab and look at the Security Model.

You want this to be Standard not Enhanced.

Nothing to do with your problem but this step caught my attention. This is not needed for normal (non-admin) users. Normal users only need membership to Public.

I think this is the problem, Steve is on SP1, but the standard secutiry model was not introduced till SP3.

Steve I really think you need to move to SP3 and SQL 2005 at the same time.

In fact I would recommend going to 5.00 Excutables, (with all the updates) or SP1 if you have no performance issues.
