As this question is as old as Navision is available for Windows, everybody is wondering if the “Project Management” in Dynamics NAV is ever being advanced ?
Jobs have not changed for years and years, yet we sold it dozens and dozens of times. It is a good basic module to build small add-on’s to. No Project oriented company works the same, yet the basic granule of navision fits all. [:D]
Hi, I actually heard a rumour that they are giving it a real make-over for either version 5 or 6…
Hi Erik - I’ve heard that rumor about 3 - 4 years ago - Back then Navision were solicitating NCS’s for a project with the main focus on the Jobs granule. So - let’s see… I have, in fact, been busy the last 3 months working on a project for an add-agency in Hollywood, CA (Danm - traffic has been bad - and the street closure for the Oscars made it even worse) and it has been really interesting to see how basic Navision’s Jobs molule really is… - it could be interesting to see Abakions solutions for Law-offices, though…
Hmm I thought I had replied to this topic, but obviously not [B)] Due to many suggestions I had made to Navision about the jobs granule, they aproached me in 1998 to ask if some of my clients would be willing to be a part of a survey that Navision were doing to analyze the jobs granule, and how it should be redesigned. THis was part of a fairly major project o make the Jobs granule a serious component of Navision. They sent a couple of people, I met with them, gave them my designs for a Job granule, they then went and met 2 clients one that I had heavily modified jobs for and another that was using standard Jobs, and was not happy. They went back to Denmark, and now almost 10 years later, I still have not heard even one word, or email or reply anything. Also I notice not a single line of code of improvement. Even core bugs, like inventory costing have not been fixed. So yes I have lost all hope of them ever fixing this granule. By the way, the core design of Jobs is great, it just needs completing. PS Microsoft if you need input on the Jobs granule, please let me know.
Hi, As I understand Great Plain has quite good Job functionality. So all sales goes there and no reason to improve Navision. Let’s wait for combined Dynamics product.
As far as I understood (one of) the reason(s) for Microsoft buying Navision was that GP is not really the “runner” in Europe and other parts of the world where Navision is. So maybe the Job granule will once be improved. Currently the developers seem to have more fun with doing Outlook integration and other “external” stuff rather than concentrating on the core functionality of an ERP solution.
Hi, a colleague of mine was in Vedbaeck yesterday (for the ISV Workshop), and says he’s seen some changes in the Job-Module for Version 5, I’ll see if I can find out more…
