What are the complications involved in upgrading from NAV 2009 to NAV 2013?

Microsoft keeps releasing the new, upgraded versions of Dynamics NAV now and then, where it greatly enhances the key functionalities. Though most of the Dynamics users want to upgrade to the latest version of Dynamics, yet many are held back due to the concerns about complications involved in upgrading. Can anyone please tell me some of the main complications in upgrading NAV ?

MS releases a new “version” once a month, called “Cumulative Update” (formerly “Roll Up” and before that “HotFix”).

A “Cumulative Update” is a hotfix containing new/changed functionality. Kind of a new release, actually.

A hotfix fixes errors in the program(…).
Also error that occured in the last release. [:@]

So - implementing the latest version (pr. this month) may call for updating the customer next month. Again.

It is not allways a demand to have the latest version.
Here we do check whether or not it is necassary to install the latest version - simply by checking the release-notes. And take action from that point. [:^)]
E.g. customizations may have to be done all over again, more or less.

The main issue is probably this: you and your customer have to decide who pays… [H]

hi,

the issues depend on the start version and the wanted target version.

the upgrade should only be done by experienced nav developers.
