How do we manage Transfer from warehouse to production of a lot (e.g. 5717) that is a blend of 10 different batches of basic raw material ? We have issued batch numbers to each batch of the basic raw materials during the process of their receipt.
Thanks Kiran for your reply. I understand that I can put From batch in the transfer journal and assign one common To batch for issuance to production. However, given long production lead times in certain cases, is this work in process (WIP) batch treated as a ‘item / product’ in its own for better traceability or tracing it through basic (raw material) item numbers reference the ‘To Batch’ issuance batch number is the normal AX practice.
I will need to consume this quantity through stock movement later and for that again, I will need to call all basic items of this WIP batch one by one instead of calling the To batch or alternatively calling one product with all its ingredients. We are not having the production modules functional at this moment and ‘consequently’ we have not made any BOM (Bill of Material).
Have I been able to make myself clear enough or things are confusing ?
Thanks. We have a warehouse / location as the production default location and we transfer the base materials from the base material warehouse to production default location. We consume the materials lying in this location when required.
We have to assign atleast an issuance ‘To Batch’ number (in the transfer journal) in order to maintain traceability, for cases like a final product flaw and backtracking to origin.
I have following queries.
1 - Is having intermediate WIP Items (other than BOM) an acceptable method for AX users ?
2 - Should I stick to tracking my WIP through the WIP Batch (To Batch) number assigned to each base material ?
3 - Is there a way (option in Movement Journal & / or a report) by which I can call my WIP batch through the WIP Batch NUMBER ?
4 - Is it recommended to use BOM in such situation without work orders etc. ?
Note: The base materials are Catch Weight products with varying weights batch after batch of the identical product type. Uptill now, we have taken receipts using Movement Journal. Apparently the same is not possible with Purchase Orders but will discuss this later !!!
