Hi all, I have a question regarding upgrading a Navision 2.00 version with Advanced Distribution. I want to upgrade the database to Navision 3.70. To my surprise I figured out that it seems to be that the 3.70 upgrade toolkit doesn’t support Advanced Distribution??? Anyone any experience with that issue? All help is welcome! Kind regards, Roelof de Jong.
I didn’t realize that there was an AD version 2.01, I thought it started with 2.50 [Oops!] Either case, you are correct. You will have to do multiple upgrades: 1) 2.0 AD to 3.60 (You might have to go 2.0 AD to 2.60 AD, then 2.60 AD to 3.60) 2) 3.60 to 3.70
From memory you have to do it in three stages. 1) Use the special upgrade toolkit available to take you from 2.01B AD to 2.6AD. 2) Use the special upgrade toolkit to take you from 2.6AD to 3.6 3) Then use the normal upgrade toolkit to take you from 3.6 to 3.7. In the first two steps you only need to migrate your changes to the tables and then do the changes made in reports/forms/codeunits in the final 3.7 database. Because of the vast differences between AD in 2.01 and 3.7 you will have to do a lot of re-engineering in 3.7 since alot of the procedures are very different and you have the concepts of Inventory/Warehouse picks etc. So spend a good deal of time looking at how 3.7 works and then make the changes there. Because of the differences between 2.01, 3.6 and 3.7 I wouldnt recommend staging the migration (i.e stopping at 3.6 and then moving on later) as has been proposed by some nameless sales people here.
Skip 3.7 and go to 4.0. We spent the better part of year, finding different solutions to allow us to go from 2.01 ad to 3.7. The upgrade to 3.7 wouldn’t carry over serialized inventory detail. along with other things. Better, in my opinion to go all the way and upgrade to 4.0. That is what we are in the process of doing now. David
I agree, go to 4.0. Learn the new product and the HTML wizard upgrade will tell you what you need to go through Version to Version to Version to get the job done. Remember, 2.01 Dist. was not Navision. It belonged to Lanham & Assoc. Remember to do a trial run to get to the client to play with. They will find things you will missed. Sometimes additional coding is needed to get missing information into the latest version. Then do the final run. Take care. Geovanny
I wish you good luck! [xx(]
