Upgrade from Attain 3.01A to Attain 3.01B

We are just about to do this upgrade, on an implementation which is reasonably heavily bespoked with code we have written. Our software support company has given us a .fob to import, and say they are confident our changes are incorporated OK. Do we believe them? Obviously we will test the upgrade, but as this is our first ever upgrade, do any of you have any tips/warnings that would help us?

Hello Andy, Have your NSC sent you the upgraded Client & Server software as well, or has this already been installed? As part of the release for Attain GB3.01B, Navision released new versions of the client & server software. If not, you should get these first, as you will need to move to these before importing the fob. To do this, you should backup the database, install the client & server software & then do a restore into a new database file though the new software. If you have any doubts about the *.fob, you have received from your NSC, you should upgrade a copy of the database, re-compile it to see if there are any errors & import the fob & re-compile it again. Attain will tell you if you have any issues. On importing the *.fob, you should check what the Import Worksheet screen shows - specifically: Do the dates & times for the new objects post-date the objects in your database - They most be newer. Are there references in the version list for the existing objects that are missing from the new version list. These maybe mods that have been omitted. If the modified flag is set to “Yes” for the existing object, then this should almost certainly be “Yes” for the new object from your NSC. Again, if these are missing, they may be mods that have been omitted. I am a little worried that you have your doubts about your NSC getting this right. Hope this is of help. -------------------------------- Edward Bloomfield Navision Support Consultant Cambridge Online Systems Limited www.cambridgeonline.net

Edward, Many thanks for your comments. We already have upgraded the Client software to GB.3.01.B. We have the SQL version of Navision server, for which there isn’t an upgrade that our NSC has told us about. I am about to test the upgrade of the Database objects only - would that be right? Your comments about what to check on the import worksheet are very helpful, thanks.

Hello Andy, Yes - You just need to test the database objects now. All the best! -------------------------------- Edward Bloomfield Navision Support Consultant Cambridge Online Systems Limited www.cambridgeonline.net
