unclosed topics, open discussions

Hi to all members, after reading another night in the active topics and reflecting some old topics I AM ANGRY. 1.) There are so many threads starting with a question by user XYZ, discussed by other users BUT user XYZ never writes a second reply. Is our time for solving his problem not worth of a “Thank you” or so ? 2.) There are so many threads, which are only half discussed ! IF YOU ASK FOR HELP AND FIND A SOLUTION BY YOURSELF, TELL US ! Our time could be even better spend for a nice beer or so as in solving already solved problems. EVEN BETTER YOU SHARE YOUR SOLUTION WITH US. 3.) I wish Eric would stop creating topics without an intensiv search on the forum before. But that is to much work for him and ends in the philosophical question:“What is an intensiv search?” Or what you are thinking ?

Cool down, man [:D] First off, you will never manage to educate other people. If someone’s manners do not include the ability to post a simple “Thank you”, then this is so. Well, you could create a “blacklist” of ungrateful dorks [;)] and explicitly refuse an answer the next time he asks a question, but why bother? And I don’t think it really is that bad around here. Most folks do express their gratitude - Petkov even sent me a sixpack, hi Petkov! [:)] Second, you should not expect too much of internet / web audience. For us regulars, this place has become a community, a place for sharing and mutual benefit. For Joe Average, this is yet another information source. Ask a question, get an answer, leave until next question. Again, that’s the way it is - the classic “internet consumer”. To be honest, aren’t we all like this in some respect? Who has never downloaded some free software? And who of those who did, have ever written and uploaded some free software in exchange? It’s the same here, it’s just knowledge instead of software. You could only change this if membership required some sort of “probation phase” and formal acceptance by the existing members, based upon the applicant’s behaviour and manners. You would not want to be that strict, would you? And once again, more often than not have I seen people coming back to the thread they had created, posting the solution they found by themselves (if they did, of course). Your statement about Eric sounds strange to me[?] On how many occasions has Eric done this? I can’t recall a single “useless” topic created by Eric in the last weeks. I do agree with you, though, that people should USE THE D*RN SEARCH FUNCTION BEFORE POSTING!!! ARGH!!! [:D][}:)] Have a nice day,

Now that’s the way to get your questions answered. [:D] Anything else you need help with Petkov? [;)]

Hi Heinz,

Perhaps my english is to bad to express my meaning correct. I hope you see that I didn’t see it as Eric’s fault …

Ach ja - irgendwie hatte ich das eh vermutet, dass Du das so meinst, aber ich dachte, Du beziehst Dich auf einen kleinen Fauxpas von Eric, der mir entgangen ist… [;)] The problem is that this kind of “filtering” would result in an exorbitant amount of work for Eric (and the moderators?). How do you know if someone has used the search function? And even if they did, maybe they simply used inappropriate search terms and failed to find a useful answer? So you would either have to prevent people from posting altogether and instead have them submit their posts to a moderator (just like in moderated USENET newsgroups) who then tries to find an answer in the archives first, or moderators would have to kick out all postings where they can find an answer in the archives… Well, I think you get my point… Maybe members should be forced to submit their credit card number upon registering. And whenever they post a question which is then answered simply by providing a URL into the archive, they get fined automatically. At the end of the fiscal year, everybody having three or more stars will get invited to a huge party, flights and drinks sponsored by MBSUG.

@Heinz: May I ask for your credit card number [8D]? btw. Congratulations for your fourth star [:D]. @iammicky: I had the same idea some months ago. But then I decided to do nothing. You can’t teach every user in ‘netiquette’ (unfortunately [xx(]). But on the other hand the MBSUG as a whole is not that bad UG. There are some other UG’s on the net with a more strange behaviour. bye André

Thanx [8D] I agree with you on the netiquette thingy. That’s what I wrote in my first reply, you simply can’t educate people. It’s a futile attempt which will never come to an end (sounds like some software implementation, huh? [:p]).

But this forum is really a lot better on these issues than the vast majority on the net. That’s most probably caused by its business background. For example, I am looking to jump on the wireless home network train. I have been searching web sites and forums for user comments/experiences on the various products. You wouldn’t believe how many stupid posts/flame wars, etc. I have seen these past days… [xx(] Thankfully, I don’t remember a single one on MBS-UG!

In Germany we say: Never wake up sleeping dogs!!! As far as I remember there was at least on thread which was nearly a flame war. The topic started funny and went to a strange discussion about the way of calculate some things. But this thread is really the only one I can remember. bye André

Wir Ösis sagen das auch [:D] I think he just did. [xx(] Check out the “Filter Question” thread started by Gigi - simply amazing…

Perhaps it would be better if the current thread would be closed and deleted by an admin. IMHO we shouldn’t show such examples in this UG. bye André

Hey, the customers are puting my eyes out because of this bug, MS just doesnt give a s**t and I find somebody (with good intentions,Im sure) who doesnt understand what Im saying… somethings got to give![:)] But I didnt get (really) flamed ![:D][:I] PS: Heinz, you really are easy to “flame”

Andre, I think it should be clear that we were joking, but I agree that we have moved too far from the original topic, so let’s leave it at that. I will delete my own postings, and if Nelson does the same, no harm will be done [;)]

OK, Heinz, it’s a deal. [;)] André is right, we shouldn’t joke around with the subject, thanks André.

Hi Heinz You should know I’m always for some jokes [:D]. To avoid misunderstandings: The ‘Filters question’ thread should be closed. bye André

Ok Nelson, shakehands [8D] Andre, I would just like to flame you to pieces for being so unprecise [:p] But joking aside, this thread (the one you are reading right now [:D]) had really become a bit childish…
