Transportation management terminology

Transportation in AX,

I am currently involved in learning and implementing the TRAX. I have few questions related to the terminologies used in the TRAX. It would be nice if anyone can explain me the following:

  1. What is shipment?

  2. What is carrier and carrier service?

  3. What is transportation method?

  4. What is transportation mode? how it is different from mode of delivery?

  5. difference between LTL and TL?

It would be nice if anyone can help me these concepts. Thanks to you all in advance!

  1. This is the physical movement of goods. In AX it is also the collection of items that will be shipped and also refereneced as what the carrier will ship - so all of the goods you are moving.
  2. These are businesses that move stock for you, DHL, UPS etc, and the service is what they offer you 24hr delivery, express next day, 3 day, 1 week, 5 weeks etc.
  3. How the carrier is going to move this, air, land, sea.
  4. The mode is how they will move it withim the method - so truckload, part shipment or indeed the type of truck or even specifically named transport.
  5. One means you do not have to worry about what you send, but the other means the carrier will not ship until you fill the truck.
