After you have signed in you can click on your userid in top (next to the “Signed in as”). This brings you to your profile for editing.

**Signature and Bio tab:**

_Signature_: Here you can create a standard signature, that will be inserted on all of your forum postings. Please notice that if you later change this signature (i.e. some of you write your company name etc. here), then it will use the new signature also on old postings. You can use the same formatting (html with some limitations) as in the normal posts.

_Bio_: Write a short biography about you. Eventually what products do you work with and for how long?

**About tab:**

_Name_: Here you can write your name in a more “userfriendly” manor. I.e. if you signed up with eperst as your username, then you could write “Erik P. Ernst” here and it would be displayed instead of your username (if you set the Enable Displayname to yes later).

_Location_: I.e. Copenhagen, Denmark

_Occupation_: Your current job

_Interests_: What do you like to do? (Except working with the Dynamics products!) 😉

_Birthday_: Enter your birthday if you want you co-members to be able to send you a birthday card…

_Gender_: Yes either male or female…

_Web Address_: If you have a personal/professional website you want us to know about.

_Blog_: If you have a blog you want us to know about (if you would like a blog, but don’t have any right now, then you can get one here on this site).

_Gallery_: If you have your own photo gallery, then enter the URL here…

_Language_: Select your preferred language. Currently I have only installed the English layer, but later I will add more languages (when they get available from Community Server).

**Avatar tab:**

The Avatar is the small picture or logo or drawing many users have shown on their posts.

_Enable Avatar_: Change to Yes, if you would like to use an avatar.

_Upload Avatar_: First click on the “Browse” button and select your file. It must be an image file and not larger than 90x90 pixels. When found click on the “Update” button.

**Email tab:**

_Public Email_: The email address you would like to show to other members.

_MSN IM_: Your MSN/Windows Live Messenger ID, if you want to share it with other members.

_AOL/Yahoo/ICQ IM_: More IM’s

_Private Email_: The email you signed up with. Nobody than then administrators sees this email. Always keep it up to date, otherwise you will not be able to user the “Forgot login” feature.

**Site Options tab:**

_Sort Posts_: You can change if you want post to be sorted Descending or Ascending.

_Theme_: Select what site theme you want to use. Currently there are only 4 alternatives, but more will be added later. Changing the theme changes the way to site looks to you - normally mostly changes in colors, fonts etc.

_Font Size_: Select between Small, Normal, Large or Largest.

_Content Editor_: Select the post editor you want to use. I suggest that you use the Rich Editor.

_Forum Posts Default View_: Select if you want the normal Flat View or the Threaded View.

_Enable Ink_: I acutally don’t know what this is for.

_Enable DisplayName_: Set to Yes if you want to use the Name you set instead of your username.

_Display in members list_: Set to no if you don’t want anyone to see you in the member lists.

_Enable Post Mouse-Over Popup_: Set this to yes if you want a popup with an excert from the post, when you hold your mouse over the post link.

_Display user avatars_: Set to no if you don’t want to see the other members Avatars.

_Display user signatures_: Set to no if you don’t want to see the other members auto-signatures.

_Show Help Tips in Control Panel_: Set to yes if you want to see help in the control panels.

_Items per-Page in Control Panel grids_: How many items do you want to see in the control panels at the time.

_Timezone_: Select you timezone to have the times on the post display correctly.

**Password tab:**

Here you can change your password.

**Favorite tab:**

Here you can see the different favorites you have selected (are selected on the posts, member profiles etc.). You can also make your favorites public so that other members can see your favorites when they see your profile. You can also delete any selected favorite from here.

I would warn people to populate these, as SPAM crawlers will find your e-mail address, and then start sending you even more offers for Viagra and penis enlargements [A]

Just my 2 cents

You don’t need to be too scared! To be able to look up the addresses you must be a registered member first. But then again it doesn’t prevent other members [:P] to write down your address and the use it for SPAM - not that I think any member would do that - but eventually do like me - I have both a real email - and a hotmail one I use for public places like this and then I simply get a new hotmail account and deletes the old…

Quick question. Do you need to hit Save Changes for changes you make to each tab, or can you make changes on each tab then hit the save changes once?

I went the change-everything-then-click-save route and it worked like a charm.

There is no need to change it for each tab change, you only have to do it once you’re finished updating the full form.

This is the same way it works for creating posts etc.

Is there a way to make the Active Topics drop-down default to “Newest since last visit” instead of “Last 3 months”?

I wouldn’t be to sure about this,

check out the article on how deep google can dig in a web site, if they can do it the spammers surely can.

[http://www.hickoryrecord.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=HDR/MGArticle/HDR\_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149188715461](http://www.hickoryrecord.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=HDR/MGArticle/HDR_BasicArticle&c=MGArticle&cid=1149188715461)

Here is the revelant quote of the article

“Catawba County Schools chief technology officer Judith Ray said until this situation arose, the system had no reason to suspect Google search robots could access password secure sites such as the DocuShare server.”

There really is not too much you can do about spammers, well things that don’t involve baseball bats and broken knees at least. Basically if you have an email address you are going to get spam, end of story.

Its up to you to manage your spam so that you keep it to a minimum. finding the email address is just a small part of the process. The biggest part is confirming it as real. The clasic is the email that says “Please click here to be removed from this list”. Click that list, and you are on spam lists for ever. I put y real email address here, and whilst I do gt some sapm, and quite few annoying emails. (The typical "Hi I am xxx please give in detail the how to programing the following in Navision I waiting for u kwikst rply.)

The only way to fix spam, is if people would not buy from spammers. Simillar to telemarketers. The key is just don’t buy anything from them.

Hi David:

Do you know if I can access an account that has had a password changed? I forgot my password for my userid, and the only way you can get a password reset is to have it sent to the email address on file. But the email address on file is no longer valid, so I can’t get the new password sent to me.

I was able to send this message by creating a new user account, but I’d prefer to get into my old account.

Thanks

Ron

Hi Jouhayna,

I’m sorry I haven’t replied to this question until now.

But could you please try again? The upload process was changed after we upgrade to Community Server 2008 in December.
