Hi all, We are planning to go for Navision 3.7 from Navision 2.6. So in this connection, can anybody come up with the steps to be followed in upgradation process would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Hari
Hi Hari You might want to check this thread: http://www.mbsonline.org/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=7754 or you can do a search for “Upgrade”[:)]
Hi Stephen, Thanks for your tips.I have noted down. Here comes our plan, *Installing NAV3.7 in the server. *Creating a Company. *Transfer of datas. *Importing of customized objects to the new version. What you suggest? Best Regards, Hari
Hi Hari, After having a look at your plan, i would suggest you import customised objects before you do the data transfer process. If you have a look on the product CD it should give you a document you can follow which gives more precise steps required for upgrading a database. Without wising to sound too negative your plan seems a little simplistic. It can be pretty complicated process so i really recommend having a look at the documentation and practising a few times on a test database. There have been a lot of postings on this site about the process in general. It is well worth doing as stephen has suggested and searching under ‘upgrade’. Even if the version you are upgrading to isn’t the same as the one in the posting, there will probably be some pretty useful tips. Hope this info helps. Good luck![;)]
Hi Hari Like John said follow the doumentation, I always follow the Documentation on the CD, as no two upgrades ever seem to be the same, plus this tells you what Codeunits to import and run depending on which version you are upgrading from, and certian things Like Renaming Objects etc if upgrading from 2.xx to 3.xx and Multi language etc… Best of luck
Hi Hari, the upgrade process is a complex one, and one not to be taken lightly. If you did the original implementation, then you will have an understanding of the clients needs, and this makes a huge difference. If you are taking this on as a new project, then you really need to be carefull. Firstly you don’t want to take this on unless you have reasonable Navision experience. Obviously that is not always possible, so if you are new to Navision, then please try to get some diret assistance with the upgrade, it will save you a lot of free work and fixes in the end. Sorry if I am making assumptions here, but from your posting, I am guessing that this is your first 2.60 - 3.70 upgrade. In any case, make sure you test everything before you let the client go-live. My recommendation is that once you have a completely converted database with data, let the customer use it for a month, and make sure that they actually test it out. Do the Data conversion AT LEAST twice before the live conversion.
Hi all, Apologies for the late reply. Thank you all for the valuable replies. Best Regards, Hari.
