We have a client that requested that we switch to a SQL database. We have noticed a significant decrease in processing speed, especially when posting some of their larger batchs. In posting a large batch (sales)and another user is attempting to post a batch (payments) although there is no table locking, both postings are slowing to a crawl. Almost think it was better to let the one finish posting, and then the other. Is this somwhat normal? Are there any settings or SQL datatypes we need to modify? Our client was expecting an increase in speed, and not a degredation. Always in the past it we pushed the native Navision database, but now that Windows bought it, we have clients convinced they need to switch to a SQL database.
Its realy pretty obvious at any level, that Navision’s C/SIDE database is far superior to SQL, in every area except number of users. If you move a client from Navision to SQL, then it is pretty much taken that they are gong to also require a substantial Hardware investment to follow. You can build a very fast Navision server for about $15k, but in SQL terms that means about $35-$70k. Your NSC should have let you know that before the conversion.
