Slow 1st Login of Day

We are running NT 4.0 Terminal Server for our NF server. One of our NF Clients runs on an NT 4.0 Server. We both experience the same problem with the 1st daily station login to NF. There is an extended delay, sometimes minutes, before the login screen appears. The Navision Logo screen appears immediately. The station appears to be hung but will eventually get to the login. Once the 1st station has logged in successfully all subsequent attempts by any station one the network are immediately successful. The problem appears to be that the server cache is being released due to some timeout and has to be reloaded. Suggestions? Wayne Brown President Soft Answers, Inc.

When the last user log out the cache is flushed to disk. When the first user log on the cache is filled. Thats why it takes some time. The only way to avoid this is to automatically start a client early in the morning (after filebackup and dbtest) and automatically close that client some hours later. This can be done with Macro Scheduler or the tools from ExpandIT

We have a similar but different problem. Three of our workstations (Win95/98 clients, NT4.01 network, Nav2.01b) consistently experience the same kind of delay when starting Financials. Doesn’t matter whether other clients have logged on before them or not. To quote: “There is an extended delay, sometimes minutes, before the login screen appears. The Navision Logo screen appears immediately. The station appears to be hung but will eventually get to the login.” Attempts to fix: (1) unloaded ALL drivers in Ctrl Panel / Network and reloaded. (2) Advice from Navision: delete all instances of cpumoni.exe, which didn’t help. (3) Our NSC has been unable to help. We have twenty-seven other workstations that load the login screen almost instantly. Suggestions?

Have You tried entering the IP-adress as server name? Maybe You have som problem with the DNS.

Thanks, Lars. Your solution fixed the immediate problem. Now to research DNS…
