Shop Floor Control - Material Moves

We need to track the movement of open work orders as they travel through the routing steps. On our legacy system, we printed a traveler with bar codes on it, and it was swiped as it moved. At any time we could generate a report to identify where any work order was in terms of the routing. It appears to me that the output journal is more geared to recording time, which we don’t do. If I have to calculate the routing, and take the various steps completed already and put output quantity and click finished on them, it seems very complicated. How can I get the routing bar coded, and the moves done via the wand? Workers in the shop don’t understand journals and posting, etc. Any ideas, anyone? Julia Megareus, OSI Systems, Inc.

Hi Julia It does depend upon your setup and it will require a modification, but here is a simple approach. 1. Each wand has an identifieer, we set these up in a modified table. 2. The works order is printed with the barcode on representing the works order number. I think you simply reference an installed barcode font as the font, but is probably a little more complicated than this. [:D] 3. I will presume the wants can be periodically polled, so you bring this information into Navision, which essentially says wand, production order and user or time. 4. Display the polled information in Navision, tie this back to the individual works order. You can naturally get more complicated and barcode teh routing steps, hgave these captured and displayed in Navision. We have done this a few times and I am lead to believe it is relatively simple.

i WILL PASS THIS ON TO OUR DEVELOPER, THANKS
