setup time

Scenario: Manufacturing tooth brushes. Shift runs only for 8 hrs a day. There is a single injection moulding machine. Setup time required is 2 hours and run time is 1 hr. There is an demand for 10 quantities. Therefore total time required is 2+1*10=12 hrs. As my shift runs only for 8 hrs therefore schedule moves to second day. Now for second day again machine has to be setup again. Navision does not considered the setup time required for the second day as per my understanding. PLease confirm and also let me know if there is a work around. Abhay

Hi Abhay So you set a machine up with a moulding tool, run it for 7 hours, then leave the machine and when you come back in you have to reset the tool die? Why?

I don’t have to reset the die but the time duration of one hr is required for heating the die before I can start the production.

Hi Abhay Then no, you would need to either modify this if the routing time went over a shift to include the set-up time again, or factor this likelihood into the routing.

I think that company needs support in lead time reduction rather than a Navision consultant. Can’t you try to do something with the order modifiers ? You could set min order qty 1, max order qty 8 or something (I’m not looking at your example right now). When you create a sales order for 24 pcs, the system will propose 3 orders => 3 * setup time. Sounds a bit messy, but give it a try.

additionally if you start running this through and finding 80% of you jobs are lasting over one shift and require the second set-up time you could specify the set-up time as it is 1 hour + 80% = 108 minutes. Just another thought!
