Hi all to gain performance we have to set up a new Navision-Server these days and i would like to discuss a little about performance. I think most arguments have been already exchanged - but maybe there are still some things to learn… This are the premises Navision Version 3.70A Database Size 100 GB (about 75 % used) - C/Side (no SQL) Biggest key is the primary key in table 32 (item ledger entry) with 5,8 GB About 90-100 concurrent users The biggest issue is processing orders - about 20 people process 1500 orders daily with an average of 10 order positions Our new Server is a IBM 346with a single 3,4 GHz Xeon (1 MB Cache) 2 GB ECC-RAM PC-2 3200 DDR2 3 IBM-Serve-RAID Controllers (Dual-Channel U320, 256 MB Cache) 34 Hdds - 32 * 36 GB and 4 * 73 GB (all disks U320 15K) 1 * GBit NIC connected to a GBit-Backbone The server has its own UPS (APC 5000) The database is split into 14 files a 7,5 GB on 14 disks (which are mirrored / RAID-1). OS and programs are on their own RAID-1 pair. Target for hotcopy is a RAID-0 stripe of (4 * 73 GB). After Hotcopy the files are copied to a network-drive and then streamed on a Tape. Cache is set to 1 GB, commitcache is activated. Write cache on the controllers is disabled (although all controllers have a battery backup) The mirror-disks are always on another channel than the master. Is there anything you would suggest on the setup ?
You have a battery backup module on your ServeRAID controllers - you should make use of them and enable write-caching on your RAID sets. It will make a huge difference in your performance, especially with such large caches on the controllers.

I would add a 2nd NIC for ‘private’ connection…
