SCREENLENGTH

I suggest a SCREENLENGTH function, which would be similar to STRLEN but would instead return the actual length of the string, i.e. it would take into account the font, font size, and the characters in the string, as in variable-width fonts SCREENLENGTH(‘iiiii’) < SCREENLENGTH(‘mmmmm’). Btw, what units are used in the Form and Report Designers? It seems like an A4 / letter page is some 35000 units, so the unit used is slightly more than 0.001cm (i.e. default VertGrid > .423 cm). It would be much easier to design reports if I could use a unit that is exactly 0.001cm. [CORRECTION : The unit used IS exactly 0.001cm.]

Use Courier or annother font, that have the same whith for all letters! - But I know what you are saying!

Hi Alastair What would that measuring functionality be worth to you [?] [:)]

Hi Preben, I hoped Navision would include this as a bug (oops, feature) in future releases. Of course, if someone else has a (free  fix, that would be great. Alastair

looks like he’s willing to pay just about $0.00 for it (approximately)

Yes! Most people are like that. But then he should make it himself. Offers are still open, though… [:)]

The forum description does include “suggestions to what Microsoft should should change in future updates of Navision”, which is why I posted here. I never meant to ask a developer or NSC to provide this for free. Cheers, Alastair
