Routing Link code

If any body has experience in manufacturing in Navision ? 1st question about Routing link code ? I am still confusing about using Routing link code. When we have to use it ? why ? Does it affect the flushing method . I understand completely about routing No.s … But what is Routing link code … any body can help ?? 2nd question We must specify Routing no. in item card … okay …and we must specify PRoduction BOM in item card …okay … in cronus the parent item and the BOM and the Routing No. are the same no. 1000 … does this make any sense …

Hi Jouhayna The routing link code allows the flushing of items at the stages of the routing. Without the link codes you can forward flush when the order is released, manual flush, at your discretion, or backward flush when the order is complete. With routing link codes you can flush material automatically at a defined stage of the routing, i.e. OP30. This allows the more accurate control of invneotry and WIP where long lead times (or short lead times!) are used in production. The numbering of the Production BOM and Routing as the item number are a way of tying the routing and BOM to the item visually. This is just a way of smart numbering records. If Item XYZ required routing R001 and BOM001 then this could be clearly accurate, but from the numbering alone you gain no visual recognition. There is nothing stopping you numbering this in any way, the choice is yours.

thanks first for your help … Great Steven … I understand very well now what are you explaining … You are talking about the Routing Link code in the Routing table (the table which contains operation no. ) … okay till here I read also sonething very important … Here now new question has been raised… TO USE FORWARD OR BACKWARD All routing link codes on the production BOM must be removed I read Also that Routing link codes must be establised on the routing lines prior to entry on the BOM Lines DO I am well understood? … that we must not define Routing Link code on BOM line ? If its okay then here my question raises … What the routing link code on BOM will affect ??? What their turn in the flushing method ?? thanks again

Hello jouhayna, You need to establish a link between routing opeeration and Production BOM item that you want system to consume at the occuring of a particular routing operation. Basically , Roting link code is sort of Link between Opearion and Items to be consumbed at that particular operations Start/finish. Hope this helps.

Hi Jouhayna I will answer your questions with reference to version 4.0. 1. TO USE FORWARD OR BACKWARD All routing link codes on the production BOM must be removed The answer depends upon hte context of the statement. To ENSURE the entire order is flushed backwards or forwards at the end or start of production it is true you would need to remove routing link codes. However this DOES NOT mean you cannot use routing link codes with forward or backward flushing. 2. I read Also that Routing link codes must be establised on the routing lines prior to entry on the BOM Lines This used to be the case in 3.x from memory - the logic being that if you are telling the system to reduce stock at an operation level it will need to know what stock. However in version 4.0 I do not believe this check is in place, so you can load BOM’s and Routings with different link codes that never affect stock [:D] In essence you need to have a routing link code on the BOM so that when the operation with a routing link code is reached Navision knows all of the items on the BOM that it needs to flush as part of this operation - it maps the item to the operation put simply. Just post again if I have made anything unclear or left anything unresolved.

Thank you steven … Realy thank you

Hello:

I am picking up as a late searcher on this topic. Do I understand there to be a Many:1 relationship between BoMs and Routings, and the Link Code can appear in many BoM lines, but only in 1 Routing line?
