Routing is about time, the labour hours spent doing the step in the routing - so if it takes $10 an hour and it takes 5 hours to complete it adds $50 into the cost of the item. Routing can be forward flushed, reported at completion with actuals, backflished or posted through actual time recording in shop floor control.
