In AX 4, I would like to make reservation at sales order with no dimension, whereas I want to use dimension for picking list.
Today, I’ve a dimension on warehouse and location, I need this dimension for picking list, but on the sales order screen I don’t want to use this dimension, is it possible ? Hope yes. If yes, how ?
The answer is yes and no depending upon processing and requirements. I would advise you control your stock at warehouse level with primary stocking and create the reservation at this level, but the location no so, and you can then reserve this at picking. Have a look at the dimension group. Your question is actually quite open depending upon the actual requirements, but you can do it, perhaps not how you want however!
When I uncheck the primary stocking checkbox for location level, I can’t select location during picking, is it normal ? On sales order form, a default location is displayed, I have enough quantity in my warehouse but not enough in the default location, as result sales line quantity are not reserved but ordered, whereas I wanted my quantity was reserved on warehouse. Any explications to this ?
I do not have access to the software currently, but my memory says if you have primary location flagged on the dimension group and hte physical inventory is set to yes then the reservation is made at this level. You want it to flag at the warehouse on a sales level. Therefore you want primary and physical set at the warehouse level, however you do not want the item to have a default location, you want the location blank on the sales line. This will allow the system to reserve at the warehouse level and then at pick transfer this to the location. If you have told the system to treat a location the same as the warehouse then the system is behaving as you have told it, it cannot reserve at the location as you do not have the stock. I suggest you play with these flags to see if you can get what you want at a detail level with teh processing.
The problem is that I can’t leave the location to blank there’s always something defined and can’t edit it to blank. The only way to have a blank location is to have a blank warehouse ! I’m going to search why…
Against the item under setup there is the warehouse item option - if populated you have set default locations. Otherwise it is set against the warehouse record. This is not necessary, but may be required as part of the other working business practices.
You do not need it in the picking process is reservations are set - not on the sales line and the reservation will look for the available stock at the location/multiple locations and create the reservation here.
