We are looking reporting software to use with Nav 5.0. The reporting within the software just does not meet our needs. Anyone have any suggestions?
It depends on the exact requirements you have.
If you are running on SQL server you could for example use JetReports or any SQL reporting tool.
There are also quite some Business Intelligence tools around.
Just explain a little bit more about what you would like to see.
I am trying to create basic financial statements that have the flexibility to select various date ranges in one report. For instance, month to date, quarter to date and year to date in one report. Also need Q1, Q2, Q3, Q4 and total. Once those are in place need to move to budget/actual analysis, cash forecasting with actuals and more complicated reports. Jet Reports and Business Analytics have been suggested.
You have this flexibility already (at least most of it) built in to NAV.
You can utilize the “Account Schedules” to do exactly this job.
You can find these in Financial Management, General Ledger, Analysis & Reporting.
After a little bit of training in how to use this tool you should be able to get most of the information requested directly out of Navision.
As someone who has used Nav since 99 as both a user and a consultant. The best product I have come across by far is Jet Reports. It is relatively cheap, easy to use as it is simply an excel add on.!
I am biased as I am a JCP, but for sophisticated financial reports it is perfect. It is not to be used for huge amounts of data into pivot tables etc, it will work, but will be slow. Use it to directly populate specific cells in your financial accounts.
Hope this is of some help
