is there any documentation on report design? I want to create a simple pick list that starts from the sales header down to the kit lines. All I am looking for is to print each sales line (with respective kit lines where exisits) on a separate page that also references the order number. This should be easy no?

To learn the basic concepts of report design, read the “w1wadg.pdf”, which has few chapters on report development (I believe this PDF file should be there in Installation CD/ DVD). Once you are through with it, then go through the few built-in reports to learn how those are designed.
