Quantity and Cost Amount in Weighted Average Inventory Closing AX 2009

Hi all,

If I open an item and look at its transaction, there are usually two transactions of the Weighted Average Inventory Closing at the end of the month. My question is how the system calculates the Quantity and the Cost? What I found in my system that if we have a PO with quantity of 2 and the cost 20, for the Weighted Average Inventory Closing transaction is showing Quantity is 4 and -4 and the cost is 40 and -40.

Can someone tell me on how the system get those numbers?

Thanks.

System consolidates all the receipts before the date of inventory closing and gives a inventory closing transaction. Suppose if you have 4 different PO receipts with 2 quantity each, you will see a closing transaction of 8 quantity with cost amount is equal to the sum of all the costs.

So, I’m sure that in your case there could another receipt for more two items because of which u r seeing 4 quantity. pls recheck and post a screenshot of ur inventory transactions form if needed.

Santosh, thanks for replying. The problem is there was no other transaction for the particular item. Pliz check the screenshot that I attach.

Ricky, can you give me the full screen short of your inventory transactions form. I guess there could be the receipts after the 11/30/2011. I can explain u totally if u give me the full screen shot [:)]

Hi,

From the screenshot it seems that certain inventory value is in intransit also. Have you checked that?

Pranav…

Santosh and Pranav,

That’s all the transaction for particular item. In the weighted inventory closing, the quantity suppose to be 20 instead of 40, isn’t it?

Thanks.

You would need to show the appropriate dimensions in the screen - site, warehouse and location etc and how you financially cost by dimension group.

Adam, if you see the screenshot above, you can see there is only 1 PO with quantity 20. However, in the closing transaction, the quantity is 40. Is there any special calculation from the system that cause this? However, the Moving Average Price is correct though.

There is only one purchase order, but there is a transfer and without seeing the dimensions there is nothing saying the transfer shipment took place from the same site/warehosue or financially costed dimension of the inbound transaction and hence the question.

You have 20 in transit and 20 in a warehouse looking at the transfer shipments, so you have 40, just -20 in one location and the routine ignores negative quantities so the 40 is correct (probably)

Adam, here is the full screenshot. I still don’t understand why the quantity is 40.

So we booked 20 into WHOP-BM and shipped then out - 0 here.

We shipped then out on PL002648. Into WHTR, then out of WHTR and into WHOP-KB.

For me PL002652 is the issue. You have shipped it out of WHOP-KB presumably negating the stock in WHOP-KB but you have also shipped it out of WHTR - but we are missing the receive transactions - where are they?

Dear All,

Is there any update on this as I am facing the same issue and our management wants to know whats wrong with this.

Regards,

Burhan

I believe the issue was they had shipped more than they ever had causing a negative inventory position and therefore inventory costing skips it.

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Please check the below, the Weighted average inventory closing quantity should be 1, however, it’s showing 3. I couldn’t understand the logic at all.

It is a limited view with no quantities so cannot really comment.

can you copy the test and paste in excel, it will work.

I tried to attach excel but unfortunately an error popped.

But this cannot be all of the transactions - your first transaction cannot be TR002012 receipt, it must have been shipped from somewhere. Anyway you have 3 for weighted average adjustment as you have 1 in GS-AGILITY as a result of TR002012 and 2 in AE from the receipt of TR002620. Not sure why you have 2 shipments on TR002620, and why there is no in-transit warehouse. TR002012 should have 4 transactions, shipment out of warehouse 1 receipt into intransit, shipment out of intransit and receipt into warehouse 2.
