Hello,
For a resource type of tool, how is that tool tracked physically in the system? How is it purchased?
For example, I need to purchase a tool that will be a resource assigned to a route. It is not an item to be put on the bill of materials. How can I purchase a resource in AX? it is not a fixed asset, so that does not apply.
I want to be able to purchase a resource and then track the consumption of the resource per production order.
Any thoughts?
Thank you
I will need to be careful because they added to tooling in AX2012 which I have yet to look at.
However I have done this, but with an add-on. In essence the tool was an item, it was purchased and then created as an object in the maintenance tables, this was then linked to a resource to track usage and the resource was added as a requirement to the routes.
Standard AX struggles with the purchase to resource from memory.
That seems like what I would want to do, but as you said, it is an add-on.
It seems AX only allows the two extremes of inventory and fixed assets. Well, my tool is just a regular asset that is used as a resource.
I have tried tampering with procurement categories, but those are not able to be tracked physically in inventory, so it was sort of a dead end.
It is the linking of the resource to the item that it does not do. You also then have management of it, checking in and out and the life of the tool, because unlike inventory it is not simply used, it is in and out and degrades until it needs to be replaced.
Was the add-on something that was purchased as a separate tool for AX? or was it a code customization to link the two?
It was an add-on. EAM from To-increase. There are others out there that will do similar processes I am sure.
