Printer name in Terminal Server

When a user log in to Terminal server and local printers are mapped the session-id is included in the printer name. It looks samething like this: “…/SESSION3/HP Laserjet…”. The problem is that a user gets different session id’s at each logon. This causes some problems when using “post and print” and when we try to define printer in the printer selections table. Anyone who has encountered this problem and solved it (without installting a router at the remote site or upgrading to Citrix MF)? //Lars

Try mapp printers to //192.168.1.1/HP (IP instead session) I have completed such dirty work long ago, but now don’t remember exactly how.

The problem is that the remote users use Dial-in RAS and the printer doesn’t have an IP. The printer is locally connected to the remote users PC. //Lars

So you in deeper trouble If you dial-in directly to server you can assign permanent IP to everyone PC. Or you can try WINS.

So You mean that “\Static IP\Local printername” should work?

Sure it should. You can test on PC in LAN. BTW. If you are using W2K, there are option: mapp client printer. Create different accounts for everyone remote PC and install printer from remote PC. I don’t tried it on dial-up but on LAN it works. Download latest SP.

No help, but, this is of course intentional. Software providers are annoyed that the previous versions work OK. So they introduce new “enhancements” forcing you to upgrade. Printers is working great in Citrix MF. SE: Så det är bara att bita i det sura äpplet! Upgrade or die. And at the same time, you could as well pay for upgrading to the new Citrix XP. Regards Pelle

Thank You all for Your time. Of course Citrix is way ahead TS in functionality. But not all customers realize this and are willing to pay for it. I dialed in to TS and added a printer on the server which was a printer on my local PC that was shared. I wouldnt say it’s a solution to be proud of, but it seems to work. //Lars Ps.
