number sequences -Company and Legal entity confusion

Hi All ,

In AX 2012 , number sequences -Scope parameters has the options Company and Legal entity .

I have gone through the help it talks about the Data AreaId field , but it is giving confuse.

Could any one share me the difference in the functional point of view ( not technical point of view ) ?
