Nav V5: Lot numbers - lot number character input limits

We are receiving e-cert products that we input into lot number field. The Navision limit is 20 characters but we actually need up to 25 characters. Our support company has advised that trying to extend the lot characters is a major exercise and affects core inventory processing functionality, so any changes will be a major risk. Has anyone else looked into this situation or found other solutions to resolve ?

Thanks

Mike

Hi Mike ,

Welcome to the forum .

ITs correct changing standard fields can and will generate lots of work to make it consistent in the overall system plus you’ll be in trouble when you are upgrading.

I suggest you liase with your partner to figure out a less painful solution .

Do you really need to use all 25 characters?

I mean - is it possible to cut of some leading og trailing characters?
And still having meaningfull LOT-information, of course.

Look at the David’s Blog

Agreed - very unanimous response to this query “do not change standard field”. So we will work around this. Cheers
