Multiplatform and single platform in Navision

Dear All, I would like to ask you about multiplatform in navision, is navision a multiplatform ? can navision work with linux or unix system ?tks a lot be4hand rgds, Mark

Nope, Navision as we all know is developed by Micorsoft and may only work with Windows… you might try some virtual machine or something similar, but in the end it has to be Windows. The other point is databases, only Navision db or SQL Server - no Oracle, DB2 or anything else will work. Saludos Nils

A kind of multi platform: Navision runs on Apple computers (if they run windows on Intel chip). So not really “MULTI” platform [;)]

Sorry, it is a little off topic, but Microsoft bought perfect technology (native database) and competence (application itself) from Navision a/s Denmark. I think MS itself could never “develop” a software gem like Navision.

Well just before Microsoft bought Navision, they introduced Navision for the AS/400 platform from IBM. But the platform support was abandoned later on. But some Navision Version will run on that platform.

Dear All, Tks a lot for your reply. Thomas wrote :

So it means that Navision only run in windows and I think Apple won’t run windows in the itnel chip as you’ve said. I conclude then that Navision is windows base system and run separately with linux, ans it means Navision is a singleplatform. rgds, Mark

I have to agree completely with you, Walter. Navision is an amazing development, both from a technical and funcional standpoint. Just consider flowfields, no other db does have something similar. But that has been a lot of times the strategy of Microsoft - buy the best software companies out there, and make money. I just wanted to express myself as simple as possible, and not dig back in good old times… Saludos Nils

back when we purchased Navision 2.0 the server options were: IBM AIX HP-UX Reliant Unix (Formerly SINIX Microsoft SQL Server Option

yep, these were the ‘good old times’ when Navision was not Microsoft… but I think nowadays no one will invest in version 2 if there is a version 4 available… Saludos Nils

Just for the files: The new Intel based Apple computers CAN run Windows XP as their operation system. We have a customer (Apple Store) running their tills with Navision on Windows XP on Apple Hardware.
