When doing an initial database set up after importing object files, the “location code mandatory” box on the inventory setup is checked on and cannot be unchecked. Two questions: 1. Is this setting irreversible once this feature is selected? 2. Does the setting necessarily have to apply to all companies set up within a single datebase? Appreciate any help on this. Thanks.
Dear Colin, 1. This setting is reversible and can be checked off/on anytime if not required and will be applicable only for future transactions. 2. This setting (whether activated or not) applies only to a particular company. For the remaining companies separate set up can be done. It is independent of the settings of other companies. There is something within the objects imported on our setup that will not permit us to de-select the “location code mandatory” setting. Any idea which other settings could block this setting to the “on” position?
This sounds pretty much as a modification of the standard functionality, probably to satisfy a business rule for your company. Can be done in several ways, so best advice is to ask further details from the NSC which did the customizing. John
Hi Colin, Importing the objects will not add or remove data bits in the database, I think it is a customization done by your NSC as John has suggested. It may be customised as part of your Business rule. I would also like to ask which Database are you working on Navision Advance distriution, or just Navision Finanials. As both these versions have different set of rules for the location code. Thanks, Best regards, Prashanth pbg@navilogic.com
Dear Barthur, Thanks for the response. And yes, your guess is correct. We are using Advanced Distribution, and that seems to be the critical factor here. It seems that, with the Advanced Distribution version (2.6), you loose the option to turn off the location code set-up. It is a bit inconvenient in our case, since we operate five distinct corporate entities, but only one of them requires separation using a location code. We can get around it by designating a single location for all the other companies, but it does create some additional set-up headaches and a few extra data entry keystrokes where it really isn’t necessary. Colin
Navision Advance Distribution well at least the US/Canadian version (2.60) has very explicit C/AL code which fundamentally prohibits you turning off the Location Mandatory flag once its has been switched on. I have not been able to find any documentation as to why it is so, in the Advance Distribution Manual. I can also imagine that the thought process was, that if one is using/purchased the Adv DB system. Then why would you not expect that flag to be turned on as the version is expecting the system to be used in a distribution environment. However, as it has been pointed out by other responses to this question this flag can be switched on and off at will in say a non distribution database. It is even more annoying and irritating as if you have multiple and discreet companies within the single database this flag cannot be switched off for a specific company. I don’t know if any distribution guru’s out there can shed any light as to why the system has been coded this way? Also I have checked Navision Attain version 3.00 beta and it has reverted back to allowing one to turn this flag on or off at will. So I too like Colin is a little puzzled by this. _________________________ Wendy O’Connor - co moderator Attain/Financials - End User Questions NOLUG
