I have installed Navision 4.00 server and client on Windows Server 2003. when i tried to connect to the database system generating the following error message : “The operating system cannot gain access to the file C:\Program Files\Microsoft Business Solutions-Navision\Client\database.fdb. Please check that the file type and attributes are correct.” I am the administrator on the server.i have given the full permission to the database folder and the client folder. i don’t know what else to do ?? Can any body can tell me what i am missing or any suggestions please ??

Hi Mohan, Please check whether the database file is ‘read only’. Cheers,

Hi, look at the properties of your file, if Read-only is marked, unmark it.

Database field doesn’t have the Read Only check mark . Client folder and also the Server Folder doesn’t have the Read Only Check Mark. Any suggestions ?

hi mohan, try to give your access security to everyone. [8D] my navision 4 and windows 2003 server work well here. let me know the result, Jemmy

Look at the Login för the service. In 4.00 its Network Service [V] That account does not have full access to the local disks. You must change this to Local System Account.

On the v4.0 ‘W1 Tools CD’, there is a document named “Navision - Security Hardening Guide”. In this document, under Navision Security Best Practices, you will find:

quote:

…you should ensure that the service is running as the NT Authority\Network Service account… You must remember to give the NT Authority\Network Service account … read and write access to the database file(s) to ensure that the users can connect to the database.

So, it seems that running the service using the ‘Local System’ account exposes your system needlessly (if someone figures out how to hack the Server service). The new rule is – run the service using the ‘Network Service’ account, and remember to give the ‘Network Service’ account read/write access the the db files…
