How to use Variant on Record

Hi I am working with ATTAIN-310, I am Using Variant Type to assign a Record ( more specific G/L Entry, TABLE) to it, But i am not able to Use the normal FUNCTIONS defined on a record as COUNT, FIND etc. How can i use the those functions using VARIANT DataType. Thanks Harikesh

whats the req. of using variant instead of record variable
