How does one use the Critical tickbox on the Items card?

In a manufacturing environment, what circumstance would I need to tick the Critical tick box on the Item card ?

Using Production BOMs and Routing on NAV 2013.

Hi David,

If you’re using the available to promise (CTP) a shipment date on the sales orders, then this item will be included in the calculations, if it’s part of a BOM of the item to be sold. To my knowledge it’s not used anywhere else in the system (and I just a complete cross reference search in the source code).
