Hi together, i need to make a report which has 1 line white, 1 grey, 1 white, 1 grey … and so on, for better readability. Now i tried several things to get the background colored but nothing worked. Any idea how i can do this? (using Attain 3.60)
Hi Wolfgang, I don’t know if this is possible. I’ve tried some settings with backcolour and backtransparent long time ago, but could not solve this problem. What i have done is, to show a rectangle around the complete section every two records. Perhaps that is a way for your customer, too? Grretings, Frank

Did you try with a bitmap? Anna
Hello, Colour does not work for text, shapes or backgrounds for reports, only on forms (Screen design). Unfortunately, this does not work in 3.70 either. MBS show no sign of adding this as a feature in the future either. [B)] I would second Anna in suggesting that you use have a coloured bitmap & add code to the relevant section to make its appearance conditional. For some reason bitmaps seem to work - we frequently get asked to add their logos to client’s reports. e.g. OnPreSection IF THEN CurrReport.SHOWOUTPUT; or CurrReport.SHOWOUTPUT();
Hi All, Wolfgang wants to print the whole background of a section in grey. Does this work with a bitmap? Please give a reply if you have treied this, Wolfgang. Thanks in advance, Frank
Hi, I think you can superimpose text over a bitmap in the Navision report writer tool…but I have never tried…
Wolfgang, if you really have to have colors, I’d suggest you create an Excel file from the report and set the colors there (from within C/AL). Actually, once you have a working report with sections etc., it’s not too difficult to add the “export to Excel” functionality - you just put the Automation commands to write out the data into the OnPreSection triggers.

A collegue of mine once did and it worked. Unfortunately, after going through all the trouble, the customer decided that he liked rather the report without the grey background and had it removed. So we no longer have an example to look at to tell you the details. [:(!] Anna
This (not printing colors), is a feature added by Navision to save you money on Color ink [}:)] The only solution to this, is pre-printed paper. Even if you did print color, in this case it will b either very slow or very expensive. Try putting a very light horizontal line on every second row, it give the same as the Green Bar paper effect.

Buy colored paper
It should not be so difficult. An example can be downloaded from www.mibuso.com .
Hi together, sry for my late reply … but i didn’t know that navision.net is now called mbsonline.org … [8)] As my Report is a price list which goes to customers, i used the solution with a bitmap in the section with same size as the section (i had luck and the size of the bitmap was below 32 kb). Now the report is looking perfect. [:D] Thx for help.
If you use bitmaps, be very carefull!!! I made the mistake once of creating a lovely report using bitmaps for shading. It looked brilliant [8D]… until the customer starting using the report in anger and it hung the whole system due to the memory the report was using up [:I] Moral to the story: make your bitmap as small as possible [:D]
Sorry for my ignorance, but how do you use a report in Anger?
David - just read your reply!! It’s probably a british expression and it means (…uh … how to explain?)… If you do something “in anger” you do it keenly and seriously. For example, with this report, the users were running it regularly and with real life volumes of data…
I have come across some customers who have used Navision “in anger”… [:D]
But have you got any who use it in Ongar???
Unfortunately not…[:D]
No, never heard that one before, learn something new everyday. Thanks Alison.
