How can I decrease time on Futures in MRP?

Can you please help me understand the difference between Action messages and Future messages? I would like to lower the time we spend on Futures and I am not sure the best way to do this. We run a 120 day MRP and I thought changing the time fence on futures from 120 days to 30 days would help, but I did not see any impact to the time at all spent on futures.

Do you have any ideas to help me? Also, what do you use Futures for?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Future messages are when you can actually deliver based upon material and capacity, so you have a delivery date of 15/08 but you are missing the stock of one part and the lead time is 3 weeks so you have a futures date of say 31/08.

Depending upon how you have setup planning it will do one of a few things. Most people using future messages would get the system to move it, you then get an action message to advance by 16 days to when required.

If you do not understand the difference I would ask why you even have them turned on!

If you promise to deliver to a customer on 15/08 and the system thinks you will deliver on 31/08 what do you do?

Well said AdamRoue. As for time fences Jake Roder has a great slide showing recommended timefence settings relative to each other.

This slide came from an MRP tips and tricks presentation Jake often does. Watch the video here and also from here download the presentation. dynamicconsulting.com/…/

Wende, did any of this help you?
