HELP - Cannot access main menu

Hello All, I have something extremely stupid somehow and locked only log-in out of Navision - and this holds all of my development for the last few weeks. I have no other log-in to use. All I get now is “cannot access main menu” How do I access my forms, tables etc? HELP Please… David

Not sure I follow… can you login? If you can, can you not open Object Designer?

Hi Nelson, No, nothing. I think I must have changed either the permissions for my own log in or even done something to the superuser. I just cannot access anything including the Object Designer. Is there anyway to access the objects?

Did you renumber or delete the form object you use for your main menu, is it not compiled for some reason, or did you define a non-existent main menu in the user setup table? Well, if this is the case and you can still log in but no main menu is being opened, you should still be able to open the object designer. Try ignoring the error and pressing Shift+F12. If this does not work, hmm… You don’t happen to have a recent backup, do you? Well, maybe you can access the database with ODBC or C/FRONT and change the main menu number in the user table?

I went into Security, etc… Hence my claim of serious problems for my development work…

Or: can you access the backup function in which case you could backup the applications objects? Maybe even the entire database? I’ve never seen or heard about the problem you have. The last chance - and assuming it is only a lost login and not a corrupted database - would be typing “???..” (20 question marks) in the User ID field at the Login window and giving the code that will popup to your MBS-Partner…

I have had a “Cannot access menu” message before too. But it clearly comes after I attempted to login. In fact we have many main menu’s, it depends on who log’s in and what menu they see. But I was always able to get to object designer. You say you can login to security…can you create a new superuser?

Hi All, No I cannot log-in to Security at all and dont know the superuser password. I cannot see object designer also. I am confident the database is not corrupt - I think I have messed up my log-ins. Not sure where to go from here…its too much work to do again…

Sorry David. It sounds like you will have to use the ??? “backdoor” and contact your NSC. They can restore your access to a database for which you’ve lost all logins. I’m not quite sure but I believe this is a paid service (can anyone confirm?) so you’ll have to weigh this option against its cost.

Nelson, All is fine. I did actually take a full backup on Friday! Fantastic! Luckily the development database was in the same folder as other databases I regularly backup. I have now restored this and have created a new super password. Thanks for your help and advice - I really appreciate it.

hehe, in one word: PHEW! [:D]

Yes, Nelson, you get charged for that ???-Service. Don’t know how much at the moment, but it is not cheap - enough to make you aware of safety and backup issues.

create a second super-user (just in case):)~
