Does anyone have experience with managing over 5000 fixed assets that must have equipment maintenance - high degree of preventative maintenance.

You need Dynamics Ax add on for EAM (Enterprise asset management) which handles the Maintenance part. Where based on your preventive maintanence schedule and rules and conditions system automatically creates the Maintenance orders. It goes into more details as based on your triggering paramenter (hr or Km based) and based on predefined tasks. Let me know you region i can help with vendors
