We have just implemented AX 4.0 in our company and found out that financial reporting does not work as we were explained.
The main difficulty we have is that we work with 10 dimensiones and most of the financial report should combine a range of them but for what we have seen, the system assigns some priority that we can not control
We have also found some issues with the opening & closing balances and on the way it calculates the values but can not find any documentation regarding functionality, known issues and fixes. The AX manuales do not give much light to our main questions
Does anybody know where to find any good documentation in this subject?
Any help much appreciated
The only real documentation is on customersource, and you have the manuals.
If you have issues with the openining and closing balances I would suggest you contact your partner - I presume these were migrated into the system?
As for the dimension priority these are set by the dimension focus, have a look at these and how they are being used.
I presume you are using the financial reporting from within AX and not an external tool?
Thank you very much for your prompt reply Adam. You presume right. We are using financial reporting within AX at least for the moment. We are still trying to stabilize the application. Our partner company has not been very helpful so we have reach an AX knowledge that exceeds a standard end user one
We migrate in Sept 2009 so our closing and opening balances are result of the standard AX functionality. We realised that financial reporting is not bringing all the posing data from an specific account, even when you set up the row to take into consideration all kind of data. Filtering for example 2010 year, it brings all posting values except from the opening balance. It seems a kind of bug as it works when you replicate every single account row but with different type.
The same happens with rows and posting data when you set up some of them as Net, Credit or Debit (enums). The Net ones work but the Credit & Debit don´t
We don´t know why it is doing this but affects all the financial reports we generate. We have checked all tables and data has been saved correctly. The configuration of the reports is also correct so we can only think is something within the generation of the actual report
By the way, when can I check the customer source manuals? I would like to know whether they are the same that we were provided with
As for the dimensions, we would like to know how to set up dimensions hierarchys and how this affects.
Thanks again for all the help
The first question would be to check “how” you migrated the data in, and the period settings this went into the system against and that the year is closed etc. I am not a financial consultant so it is difficult for me to say other elements to check.
As for customersource your partner should have set this up for you when you purchased the software. This is a repository of all Microsoft related information for you, and all of the manuals are on there. If you do not have access you need to ask your partner to set this up for you.
There is an entire chapter dedicated to dimension hierarchy - chapter 8 of the finance II training module.
