As most of you probably already know, the codebase for Navision Solutions i going to be changed to english for all local versions. It is a big change, but has some great advantages - at least when you have overcome the issue of learning all the names in english :-). The advantages Navision list are: 1. Time-to-market will decrease as the code don’t need localization. 2. More add-ons available 3. Better opportunities for add-on developers (larger market) 4. No extra errors will occur in translation to local versions 5. Multilanguage 6. English is international, and developer language. Any comments on this? I think this will be great. We just have to handle one version of our Add-ons instead of two (One in Swedish and one in English). This will save a lot of work. One big mission will be to upgrade from an earlier system with Swedish code base to a new system with English code bas. I have heard about a new developer tool that’s been present one the World Conference that will help us with this. Have any one seen the Developer tool yet?

Real life is: 1. Time-to-market will remain the same, as the versions should still need localization for becoming ready for local rules (taxes treatment are different on different countries… and also user menu/forms/report are needed to be translated for local. 2. The add-ons will also require translation and being modified to acomplish the local laws/rules. 3. The errors should allways be… (1st coding rule) 6. Errrr… not so international… i think there are still lots of people having real troubles when taking english documents… 7. Probably now we’ll have more things to do while the translations will be just half-made… – Alfonso Pertierra apertierra@teleline.es Spain
I wonder if this will encourage Navision to start commenting the code. Am I the only one that does not think that all the code is “obvious?” Jim Hollcraft NCSD, NCSP, MCSE, CNE, MCP, MST aka Skater http://drilldot.com Unauthorized Navision News
