database Server Versions

I am using two databases(and clients) of version 4.0 and 3.7. Now I want to move to the networked environment. I tried to install the navision server 4.0 and connected successfully from the client computer.

However, when I try to install the database server of version 3.7, the dialog box asks for whether to remove or repair the existing database server 4.0. Now, I want to install server of version 3.7 not remove or repair existing database server of version 4.0 .

I want to have both the database servers ( version 3.7 and 4.0) since I am using the two databases of version 3.7 and 4.0.

How can I solve this problem??

Installation of several server instances is described in “Installation & Config Guide”, which shoul be on your product CD.

The most essential part - you must assign different TCP/IP ports for your server instances, how to achieve this, look in the manual, as the text is too lengthy to copy-paste it here.

[updated] Suggest you are using native DB, but abovementioned manual covers all situations, and there exists a “SQL option…” manual, too.

Hope this will help you to get things moving

Running more than one Server
The following sections describe the possibilities for running more than one server
with the same database or with different databases.
Two or More Servers, Same Database
It is possible to run two or more Microsoft Navision Database Servers with the
same database provided that:

• Each server has a different server name.
• All the servers are run from the same folder.

With this configuration you could, for example, have one server running TCP/IP
and another one running NetBIOS on the same database. See NetType –
Selecting a Net Type for a description of TCP/IP and NetBIOS.
Two or More Servers, Different Databases
It is possible to run two or more Microsoft Navision Database Servers with
different databases provided that:

• each server has a different server name.
• the server programs are located in different folders.

This means that to use two databases on the same computer, you must install the
server program twice in two different folders.

The following examples describe how to configure your installation for running
two servers with different databases, using TCP/IP and using NetBIOS.
