It seems there is a lack of country specific documentation, in fact a lot of the functionality in Axapta 2.5 is undocumented, the on-line help is not always complete. Users starting with Axapta find it very hard to recoqnize situations and sample situations are very rare. Does anyone have any resources for (full) documentation of Axapta 2.5 and specifically dutch functionality? Thanks
Agree. The 2.5 docs are very high level. Have you checked the V3 documents in pdf format on the product Cd. These are much better. I know the functionality is a little different but 95% still applies and it goes in to much greater detail about set-up parameters etc which are generally still the same.
Disappointing response, there must be someone willing to share his documentation created during some implementation. Or there must be some resources who have created their own documents. Perhabs someone wrote a book?
If you have any luck locating this information, I would appreciate it as well. I’m in the process of implementing 24 countries on version 3.0 (I’m with a fairly new partner) and am finding it slow to coordinate the requirements with the functionatity. Thanks in advance!
hi all, ya need to document the country wide functionality is important, here in India too still country specific documentation is not available. I too have experience on 2.5 implementation we had lots of trouble implementing the country specific functionality. hi Shirley does ur 24 countries also include India, if yes then please do brief me about your project. Geuko i hope that you should get a positive resopnse on the specific functionality u require. Thanks & regards vaibhav pednekar
Vaibhav - no, India is not in the list of countries that we are implementing - US, UK, Ireland, Finland, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden, Belgium, Germany, Canada, Poland, Singapore, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Slovakia, China, Chile, Korea, Japan, Portugal, Taiwan and Brazil. I hope the countries I’m dealing with ‘play’ well together! I know some don’t actually exist yet, so we’ll have to work around those. We’re in the process of setting up a test enviroment here to start testing each country one at a time. Any input in this area would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the response, Vaibhav. Shirley
When you are talking about sharing country specific documentation, remember that you would then probably get e.g. documentation of Danish features in Danish – can you live with that? I also only have the “official” documentation, and would also be interested if somebody should have something else. However I think that if someone took the time and effort to write manuals/books, I would say that it is fair enough, not wanting to just give it away – it takes quite a lot of time to write stuff like that. Ask around, there are companies selling stuff like that. For those who are NSC’s you can also find country specific documentation on the Partnerguide (I know for Germany there are quite a lot under tips & tricks). For not NSC’s – please ask your NSC. The biggest problem here is of course that NSC’s no longer have access to information for all countries on the Partnerguide – I don’t know why, but for us it is a problem because we have a lot of international customers as well (my largest was 29 countries). And after implementation you will have the problem that you don’t see any new Hotfix’s, DIS-Layers etc. for other countries that your own. For countries where there is a DIS-Layer, I strongly recommend the DIS-Layer documentation for country specific info, also the technical – it is good. However because of the access problem mentioned above you will not be able to find the information concerning DIS-Layers yourself – you have to ask MBS or local partners. I know that for 3.0 there is at least one for Spain, Germany, and Sweden; I’m quite sure that there is no for Denmark and UK at the moment. A tip is also if there was DIS-Layers for 2.5 – this functionality will mostly (except for Sweden) have been implemented in 3.0 as standard functionality. Therefore it also pays to read “old documentation”[:)]. Have fun searching - and for questions concerning Germany, I’ll be glad to help. YF Margit
I agree with you, Margit, about the time and effort it would take to do this documentation! One thing that I can say about Microsoft is that their documentation for the Great Plains product was very good. I assume that at some point in the distant future, additional documentation will be created… hopefully. Having said that, we are doing a lot of stuff ourselves because it’s really specific to the client we’re implementing. I do have a question for you, though, if you don’t mind. You mention that you implemented 29 countries and to use the DIS layers, etc. We have been talking to Axapta developers, etc. and found that it’s basically quite costly and time consuming to combine the DIS layers for the countries onto one application (we are doing 24, including 4 Asian DIS and 8 European DIS) – did you end up with separate databases? Off to do more documentation. I’m actually in the process of trying to figure out German taxes and reporting right now… fun fun. Thanks, Shirley
