Company Notes

When I try to publish a company note with Attain I get a Permission Denied error. Any clues?

I just found an interesting clue, there is a file called wecerr.txt in my “Company Notes” directory containing the following: 10/06/2001 21:42:28 Server error: The URL “/C:/temp/F_330_cust.htm” is not contained within a FrontPage web.

By carefully reading ALL the help messages related to Attain Company Notes, I found the following warning: “If you are testing Company Notes on your local hard drive, do not set the path to the Temp folder because this will cause a sharing violation. Use another folder on the local drive.” It was in the section titled “Writing Company Notes.” There was another section in the help file called “Activating Company Notes” where there is extensive instruction on how to share the folder and give it the correct permissions. To me, this is the logical place for the message not to use the temp folder, not under “Writing Company Notes.” So, there are two suggestions from this: 1) Don’t test the company notes feature using your temporary folder. 2) You might find information you need in the Attain help if you look in more places than the “most obvious” place. The Attain help writers don’t necessarily think the way you do.

After 11 years of readng Navision Help, I just assumed this to be standard procedure . At least in the more recent product releases it is all in a reasonably understandable version of English. _________________________ David Singleton Navision Consultant since 1991 dmks22@home.com___________
